Fairfax County (VA.) board hires new superintendent

Karen Garza comes to Virginia from the Lubbock (Texas) district.

The Fairfax County (Va.) School Board has officially approved educator Karen Garza to be the the district's next superintendent, and Garza flew in to accept the new role in person. The Washington Post reports that Garza is in her fourth year as  superintendent of the Lubbock (Texas) Independent School District. She also held administrative positions in Corpus Christi and Houston. She will succeed Jack D. Dale, whose nine-year tenure in Fairfax ends July 1.
