Detroit district gets new emergency manager

July 15, 2013
Jack Martin has been serving as the city of Detroit's chief financial officer.

Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has announced that Roy Roberts is being replaced as emergency manager of the Detroit school district by Jack Martin, Detroit’s chief financial officer. The Detroit News says Martin has a deep background in government turnaround. Before Snyder placed him in the mayor’s office, he was emergency manager of Highland Park Schools. He also was a member of the financial review team that delved into Detroit’s financial condition in 2012 and recommended a state takeover. Roberts had been scheduled to leave the district in May, when his second, one-year contract expired, but stayed on until a suitable replacement was found.
