Despite having school with a failing grade, charter chain hopes to expand operations in Orange County, Fla.

Renaissance Charter School at Chickasaw Trail in Orlando, Fla., has received an F grade from the state, but the K-7 still school has a waiting list. The Orlando Sentinel reports that the Charter Schools USA chain, which operates Renaissance Charter, hopes to expand operations in Orange County, Fla., even though the Orange County School Board is determined to stop it. At stake is $27 million in taxpayer money that would go to Charter Schools USA, as Orange County and other school districts work to enforce local standards amid charter-friendly changes to the law by the Legislature.
