Educators debate whether the new mayor of the nation's largest city should turn away from school reforms pursued by his predecessor

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has succeeded Michael Bloomberg and has named Carmen Fariña schools chancellor. The New York Times says the appointment of Fariña signals a sharp departure from the education policies of Bloomberg, who focused on test scores, closed low-performing schools in favor of charters. Two educators debate whether de Blasio should undo the reform attempts put in place under Bloomberg.
