Deadline for 2 Michigan districts; secure funding or face dissolution

Michigan officials have given the financially troubled Inkster and Buena Vista school districts until 5 p.m. Monday to secure new loans to pay for operations next school year or face dissolution. The Detroit News says the deadline comes after legislation was enacted last month that empowers the state to disband the two districts if it's decided they don’t have enough money to remain open. After determining both districts met the criteria to be dissolved, State Treasurer Andy Dillon recommended giving Inkster and Buena Vista school officials a few days to secure short-term financing and present him and Superintendent of Schools Mike Flanagan with bank commitment letters.
