Cuts eliminated busing for 4,000 students in Lake County, Fla.

Students who do not qualify for free transportation will no longer get courtesy service.

More than 4,000 schoolchildren in the Lake County (Fla.) district will have to find their own way to campus starting next week because the school board has eliminated free busing for them. The Orlando Sentinel says the board cut $650,000 from the transportation budget by curtailing the so-called courtesy busing. Those students lived closer than two miles from their school; districts are required to bus children who live more than two miles from their home campus.
