Construction begins on New Orleans school

Project is the first of 10 school projects scheduled to get underway this summer in the city.

The Louisiana Recovery School District has broken ground on a new classroom building in New Orleans, the first of 10 campus construction projects set to start this summer in the city. Nola.com says the 106,000-square-foot Fisk-Howard building will house Morris Jeff Community School, a charter school, when construction is completed in 2014. The master plan developed for New Orleans schools after Hurricane Katrina cuts the number of public school campuses in the city from more than 120 to 88, but replaces or renovates everything that's left.
