Officials anticipate 1,000 will fill new teaching positions and 1,000 will replace departing instructors.

The Clark County (Nev.) School District says it plans to hire about 2,000 new teachers over the next several months. The Las Vegas Sun says the new employees will fill new positions and replace departing teachers. The additional hires would boost the number of teachers in the district to a record 18,868 licensed personnel and would bring average class sizes down next school year by one to two students. Clark County anticipates hiring 1,000 teachers to replace instructors leaving their jobs; it also expects to hire about 300 teachers to expand preschool and kindergarten programs, and 700 to fill new positions in all subject areas and grade levels.
