Charter school leaders concerned about mayoral election in New York City

As New York City prepares to elect a new mayor, many charter school leaders are concerned that the support they have enjoyed during Michael Bloomberg's administration may be in peril. The New York Times reports that Bill de Blasio, the leading candidate to succeed Bloomberg, is a critic of charter schools and has said he would stop offering free rent to many of the city’s 183 charter schools. Joseph J. Lhota, de Blasio's opponent, is a defender of charter schools.
