California districts misuse school meal funds

School districts across California in recent years have been illegally dipping into cafeteria funds to pay other school expenses. The report by the California Senate Office of Oversight and Outcomes identifies the Los Angeles Unified School District as the biggest offender, The Los Angeles Daily News says. Los Angeles has been directed to repay about $158 million. The report says the district shifted money from its cafeteria fund to pay for expenses such as lawn sprinklers and the salaries of employees at the district's television station.
