Boy kidnapped from school bus is safe; abductor is dead

After being held hostage for seven days in an underground bunker in Midland City, Ala., a 5-year-old boy is free, sources have told AL.com. The hostage situation ended Monday afternoon. Sources at the scene confirm that the boy is safe and the hostage-taker, 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, is dead. The boy was abducted from a school bus last week after Dykes fatally shot the bus driver. Authorities have not disclosed if Dykes was shot or if he shot himself.
