3-year-old girl who was raped on Florida school bus is awarded $1.7 million in lawsuit

Palm Beach Count district argued that the girl was too young and disabled to understand what had happened to her in 2007.

A jury has awarded $1.7 million to a mentally challenged Pahokee, Fla., girl for the trauma she suffered when she was raped on a Palm Beach County school bus when she was 3. The Miami Herald reports that the jury rejected the school district's argument that her daughter wasn’t hurt by the 2007 attack. Attorneys contended that the girl was too young and too mentally disabled to understand what a 15-year-old emotionally disturbed youth did to her on the bus filled with special needs kids.
