School district continues recovery from devastating 2011 tornado.

More than two and a half years after a tornado destroyed much of Joplin, Mo., three newly built schools are ready for business. The Joplin school district was scheduled to open Irving and Soaring Heights elementary schools and East Middle School on Monday, but bad weather has forced officials to cancel classes and delay opening events, The Joplin Globe says. The buildings have been designed to be durable yet flexible, able to last for the next 100 years, but adaptable to changing enrollment, technology and instructional methods.
